Since the Summer of 2022 Porthcawl Surf Shop has been blessed to call one of the most popular surf spots in the UK it's home!

Okay, so we may not be as pretty as the other surf shops... but we’ve got a fantastic selection of kit from world class brands, some awesome in-store only deals, and because we’re already at the beach you get to test out your new gear right away.

We work closely with the team at Porthcawl Surf School (right next door) to make sure everything we stock is up to the standards our customers expect.
At Porthcawl Surf Shop our staff are trained to offer honest adivce on what gear works best for each individual customer, rather than what costs the most!

Porthcawl Surf Shop is on the outskirts of the popular seaside town of Porthcawl, just off junction 37 of the M4.

Why Rest Bay?

Rest Bay is up there with the most popular surfing beaches in the UK.

It's one of the most consistent surf spots all year round, and quite often the beach of choice for surfers traveling from Cardiff, Newport, Bristol, Reading and London.

Local Knowledge

At low tide the beach is large and wide, and you've got a big area to choose from. But at high tide the beach disappears and the surf will be up on the rocks, so beginners should be wary of this.

Heading straight down the slipway and into the water offers a safe environment that keeps you away from the rocks found on the left and right hand side of the slipway.

Be careful of the "Rest Bay Bus". This is a notorious rip current located on the East side of the beach by the rocks (left hand side as you look out to sea), well known for carrying unsuspecting surfers out to sea!

Through the summer months Rest Bay has lifeguards on watch so stay in their flagged area if you're not sure, but be mindful of swimmers and other water users.
